Thank you for deciding to apply to ASA! The application process is quite straightforward, but requires 4 steps.
*It's always best to apply early, as we are on rolling admissions, and some of our most popular programs can fill up even before the deadline.
*The deadlines listed on our Dates, Prices & Deadlines page are not just application deadlines, but they are also full payment and
final forms deadlines. After ASA has received your completed application and determined your eligibility, you will be sent an acceptance
packet with additional forms to fill out and sign. Full payment and all forms must be turned in by the deadline indicated on our Dates, Prices & Deadlines page,
in order to avoid a late fee.
*Please note that ASA cannot accept applications from outside of the U.S. or Canada.
STEP 1:
Meet the minimum requirements. Click Here for Program Eligibility Rules
AGE: You must be at least 17 years of age for the Salamanca and Barcelona UAB programs and at least 18 years of age
for all other programs.
COLLEGE PREPARATION: For most ASA programs, you must have completed at least one semester of college. However, this varies by program, as some programs simply require that you have graduated from high school, while the ASA Florence, and Rome programs require that students have completed 2 semesters of college. To make sure you have the necessary college preparation, click here.
GPA: To see the GPA requirement for each of our programs, click here.
Applicants with a GPA that is below the minimum requirement for their program
must submit 2 letters of recommendation, plus a letter explaining why their GPA is below the requirement.
Note to pre-college applicants: Applications from high school graduates who have not yet attended college are considered on a case-by-case basis.
All GPA requirements listed above are for current college students and college graduates. In addition to the regular application requirements and documents a described on this webpage, for pre-college applicants, we generally look for a higher GPA than the minimum and ask for 2 letters of recommendation, in an effort to ensure proper preparation for a college program.

you meet the eligiblity requirements before applying.
All pre-college applicants are encouraged to speak with an ASA representative about their options!
STEP 2:
If you meet the minimum GPA requirement for your program, and your GPA is below a 3.0, you must submit one letter of recommendation.
Exception: Avignon applicants must submit 1 letter of recommendation from a
French professor, regardless of GPA, plus a 500-word essay written in French.
Avignon students should contact ASA for the essay requirements.
Print the form at the link below and give it to one of your professors to send in to us. Or, you can submit a letter
written personally by your professor. Students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher do not need
to submit a letter of recommendation.

NOTE: Students who do not meet the minimum GPA requirement for their program must submit a total of 2 letters of recommendation, plus an essay explaining why their GPA is below the requirement.
STEP 3:
Submit each of the following.
ONE COPY OF YOUR COLLEGE TRANSCRIPT: Official copies of transcripts are required for the Florence, Rome, Dublin, Aix, Avignon, Madrid semester, and Oxford programs. Students applying to all other
programs may submit an unofficial transcript. Unofficial copies must have the student's name and university/college on it. Unofficial transcripts without a name and university/college will be discarded.
PASSPORT PHOTOS: We require 4 official passport photos (8 photos for students going to Madrid, Aix, and Avignon and 6 photos for students going to Florence and Rome. You can have passport photos taken at any photo shop, or at places like Walgreens, CVS, Wal-Mart, etc. These must be official passport photos and not snapshots or photocopies.
PHOTOCOPY OF YOUR PASSPORT: This must be mailed to us, because faxed copies come out too blurry to ready. If you don't have a passport yet, you should apply for one right away, as they can take 3+ months to process by regular service. You can pick up a passport application at most U.S. Post Offices, or find out how to apply for one here.
